It is noticeable if really anal about it, especially when you zoom in you'll see some loss in the gradients and all but still a nice picture as it is.

The PNG looks darker and seems to be more saturated on my monitor. I like the JPEG more.

Darker and more saturated images looks better to me. Looks more "alive".

I agree with you they do look more alive. I just like the feel of the lighter image for some reason ^^

I like the PNG choice better but it's not bad considering the rules to have it as jpeg. Oktoberfeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeest!

Not to question your judgement or whatever... but WHY jpg? PNG is supported by all browsers, is lossless, and is almost never a bigger size; if it is bigger, it is usually only by a few bytes.
I've actually done the math and converting my .png to .jpg at 100% quality makes it 5 kB larger.

Anyway, here's the better of the 2 banners I made:

@Joe4Ever: I meant to tell you before the other thread was locked: Your blue letters look really pixelated. I'm guessing that you selected the text and painted the blue over it which usually makes it look pixelated. I would suggest grabbing the Joyful Juliana font (it's free) and doing the baka text over again with original blue colors.

Can you host it somewhere else? For whatever reason, it really does look like photobucket makes the pictures look worse than it should. Otherwise, it seems like you are exporting it at a low quality setting. The blue lines are jagged and some artifacts around her.

Eureka Seven, Eureka and Renton

A quicky I made.

Username is the same on the forums and the tracker.

Photobucket is fine, you just have to set it to "1 megabyte filesize" and the site will upload the image as is unless the file exceeds 1mb in size, and since banners normally don't go past 300kb, that shouldn't be a problem

Which I did, years ago. And the banner is not even 40k. Unless you want me to set the .jpg quality to 100, in which case the size becoms 86k while the .png is 81k.

Yes! Set it to 100 quality.

Why? Naze?

That 5% difference is almost imperceivable to humans, yet the filesize is cut in half. Malus said 'web optimization', so why make it load twice as long?

If you use Photoshop, use the Save for Web... feature, set to JPEG, quality around 90 is fine.

I use Paint.NET and .jpg defaults to 95% quality.
